The expanded session of an editorial board of the Russian Book of Memory took place in a small cinema hall of the Central museum of History of Great Domestic war on mountain Poklonnaya (Moscow). In 1993 the first 14 volumes have been issued. Now the number of historical-memorial editions is over 900 volumes in which destinies of millions of compatriots, who had given their lives for the Great Victory, are reflected. The All-Russia Book of Memory is the biggest in the world's history list of defenders of their Native land.

   Unfortunately, monuments and memorials decay and collapse. The All-Russia Book of Memory is a special Pantheon. Books will go through all times. Their general amount - about 4 million copies. 11 million names of dead and disappeared people is written on the pages. The All-Russia book of memory is supplemented with the two-volume book devoted by that who was lost in Afganistan. Besides Books of Memory of frontier guards, counterspies, submariners and other editions are created. The 10-volume Book of Memory of the soldiers who were lost in the war with Finland is getting to be also ready.

   Unfortunately, more than 4 million the soldiers brought in the Book of Memory, till now are considered to be disappeared. Association " Military memorials " is going to prepare information about places of destruction and burial places of 700 thousands of the Soviet soldiers tortured in fascist camps on the territory of Germany, and the total can make one million names.

   Seven years ago the survey volume of the All-Russian Book of Memory was published. This unique historical-publicistic edition has received a high estimation of press and the public. Now There is an idea of republishing the advanced and added volume which can serve as the grant for teachers of schools, universities.
